Frequently Asked Questions
Goldendoodles and Sheepadoodles are some of the most popular dog breeds today — and for good reason! If you're considering getting a doodle, it’s super important to know exactly what to expect — especially from a Dooling Doodle!
Benefits of a Doodle
Hypoallergenic: We genetically test our doodles to ensure they produce puppies that have beautiful hypoallergenic coats. This makes them a great choice for individuals with allergies. Our lines produce both curly/wavy hair and straighter hair, but we work with each family to place you on a list that matches your preference!
Friendly and Social: These dogs have a natural inclination to be friendly and sociable with both humans and other animals. During the 8+ weeks we have these puppies, we dedicate countless hours to socializing and training these pups!
Intelligent: Doodles are HIGHLY intelligent and eager to please, which makes training them relatively simple and easy. Many of our families report their puppies are fully potty trained and have their basic commands down by 12-13 weeks old.
Family-Friendly: They are excellent with children and typically get along well with other pets, making them a perfect addition to any family.
F1, F1B, F1BB, F2, oh my!
We completely understand that the distinctions between each generation of doodle can be confusing, so we’re here to break it down for you!
F1 Generation - also known as the first generation doodle is the result of breeding a purebred AKC Golden Retriever with a purebred AKC Poodle. This combination equals out to 50% Golden and 50% Poodle mix and resulting in a charming, sweet, and intelligent dog. For our Sheepadoodles, this is obtained by breeding a purebred AKC Old English Sheepdog with a purebred AKC Poodle. Known for their friendly nature and low to non-shedding coat, F1s are ideal companions for families and individuals.
F1B Generation - As the doodle breeds gained popularity, breeders introduced the F1B generation, which is the result of crossing an F1 doodle with an AKC purebred Poodle. In this generation, 75% of the genetics come from the Poodle breed, resulting in a more hypoallergenic and less shedding coat. The F1B generation is an excellent choice for individuals with allergies or those who prefer a doodle with minimal shedding.
F1BB Generation - This generation takes the hypoallergenic qualities of the F1B generation even further. An F1B doodle is crossed with a purebred Poodle once again, resulting in a 90% Poodle mix. These doodles are considered highly hypoallergenic, making them an ideal choice for individuals with severe allergies. Their coats are typically curly and non-shedding, making them not only hypoallergenic but also easy to maintain.
F2 Generation - Finally, the F2 generation is the result of breeding two F1 doodles together. This generation brings together a wider variety of traits from both of the two different breeds. The F2 generation can display a range of coat types, from wavy to curly, and is generally very hypoallergenic. These doodles are often sought after by those who appreciate the unique combination of traits that this generation offers.
What is ENS and ESI?
Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Socialization and Imprinting (ESI) are two essential processes in a Goldendoodle's development.
ENS involves exposing puppies to various mild stressors, such as different flooring surfaces, gentle handling, and specific positions, during their first few weeks of life! Developed by the military to train their dogs, this process helps them become more resilient and adaptable as they grow up. Additionally, studies have shown it causes advancements in the puppy’s immune system, stress tolerance, and cardiovascular system. For more information, please take a look at this video: ENS Video
ESI refers to the critical period in a puppy's life when they are most receptive to learning and accepting new experiences. Exposing puppies to different environments, sounds, people, and animals during this time helps shape their social skills, reducing the likelihood of them developing behavioral issues in the future. Puppies with this foundation have been known to go into the service dog industry to help detect seizures and alert to other medical conditions.
